Mighty-O has a philosophy to use sustainable products and create zero waste by attentive and conscientious composting and recycling. Our flour bags are converted into compost trash bags. We use biodegradable greenware made from corn for our iced beverages. We also provide a place to compost and recycle in our retail store. We don’t use harsh chemicals for cleaning, and will continue to support vendors who supply products that are recycled, organic and green. We compost, recycle, and reuse to minimize impact, create a safe work environment for our employees and customers, and to reduce waste and conserve resources.

Mighty-O is devoted to ensuring our ingredients come from companies with sustainable practices, organic production standards, and the fair treatment of farmers and employees.

Mighty-O’s organic palm oil is sourced from Agropalma, a company which started more than 10 years ago, in an agricultural area of the Amazon delta near Belem in Brazil. Since then, Agropalma has reforested 185,000 acres of previously cultivated land, which consequentially led to the rehabilitation of 7 previously endangered animal species. Agropalma has a policy of never replacing forest with plantations. The Agropalma project has also been approved as one of the first EcoSocial projects in Brazil. All of the organic production is certified by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).

There are many stories, and in the 1940’s a big debate erupted between two camps: Did a whaling captain stick a piece of dough on his ship’s wheel to create the hole? Or was it a Native American who shot a doughnut out of a pioneer woman’s hand? All we know is that the hole has been around for a long time, and there is evidence in paintings that round cakes with holes existed in Europe in the 17th century. In America, there has been a doughnut with a hole since the 19th century.

It makes sense.  Organic is better for you, the environment, and tastes better. Read more: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Organic_food

Along with the idea that non-organic ingredients may contain genetically-modified ingredients, chemical residues from non-organic fertilizers, pesticides, bovine growth hormone and animal antibiotics, we noticed other unnecessary ingredients are added in many “conventional” commercial donuts such as: hydrogenated animal fat, hydrogenated beef lard, hydrogenated vegetable and hydrogenated soybean oils (containing lethal amount of trans-fats), maltodextrin, whey mono-diglycerides, sodium acid pyrophosphate, sodium stearoyl lactylate, nonfat milk, cellulose gum, guar gum, propylene glycol, annatto, turmeric, sodium caseinate, natural and artificial flavor, gum arabic, potassium sorbate (preservative), Xanthan gum, agar, dried milk, egg yolk solids, egg albumen, bleached and bromated flours, enriched flour (bleached wheat flour, malted barley flour, niacin), reduced white sugars, corn syrup, artificial colors and dyes, color (yellow #5, yellow #6), sodium propionate (preservatives for longer shelf life), carrgeenan, high fructose corn syrup, maltodextrin modified food starch, polyglycerol esters of fats and fatty acids (derived from any starch sugar; in the US this starch is usually corn), dextrose (refined corn starch sugar), sodium caseinate, L-cysteine hydrochloride, potassium sorbate (preservative).
